Roy Estate crafts some of the world’s most sought-after wines, produced in incredibly small quantities from their 17 acres of vines; La Residence is the brand new, architecturally stunning property that serves as the new crown jewel of the 42-acre single-vineyard estate. The space will function as the proprietors’ Napa residence, an exclusive guest house for Roy Estate’s VIP members, and a private hospitality/event space, and the winery’s formal tasting room.
La Residence was conceived by Stephan Cretier, the Canadian CEO and entrepreneur who founded GardaWorld in 1995 and grew it to become one of the five largest security providers globally. He and his wife Stéphany Maillery consider themselves the caretakers of the precious gem that is Roy Estate.
The space opened five years after the Atlas Fire destroyed the original property in October of 2017. Those granted access to La Residence—which can come through a referral, by signing up for the winery’s allocation list, or by setting up a private visit directly with the winery—will be treated to an exceptional architectural and hospitality experience.
The building features design details that combine classic Napa luxury with the global vision of its well-traveled proprietors – as well as subtle acknowledgments of the property’s fiery history. Passionate wine lovers who have visited many of the world’s finest wineries, Crétier and Maillery emphasized their global travels and modern, minimalist aesthetic throughout The Residence’s 16,000 square feet of design. Estate Chef Tom Stafford—an alum of Alinea and Craft Restaurant Group—provides a gorgeously executed food program that utilizes local ingredients and simple cooking techniques that pull the most flavor from Northern CA’s bounty.
